All humans regardless of age, sexuality, gender, religion, ethnicity, make mistakes, and that’s normal! However, the standards placed by society restrict us from accepting mistakes. Any mistake no matter the size should be taken as a way to learn a lesson in life instead of an act of humiliation. Accepting the mistake is the first step to get over it, say for example you have an exam the next day but instead of studying you go to watch movies with friends so you bomb your exam the next day. Your parents are now angry and disappointed with your grades. The first step you should take in this situation is by recognizing your faults or not studying. What's done is done. You can not turn back time and change that but you can change your future. Learning from your mistake is the next important step, after you accept your mistake reflect upon it and think about how you could do better next time to prevent the same mistake. How does moving on from mistakes help your mental health? Moving from these mistakes helps you to stop dwelling on them. As you keep dwelling on your regret and guilt increase, which causes you to find more faults in yourself. At times this can be beneficial as it can help you realize what aspects of yourself you can improve. It’s important to remember that no one is truly perfect and mistakes are what make us human. However, when these thoughts cause you to lower your self-esteem that’s when you should realize that it’s time to move on. The most important thing to remember from this piece of advice is that mistakes are normal and that’s what makes us human, so accepting and learning from them is a way for us to improve ourselves not for others to use this as an opportunity to belittle me. #studentlifetips #psychologyacademy
